Apartments

Can I share a room or a studio with a friend?

No, it is strictly forbidden to share a room or a studio with someone (friend, boyfriend, girlfriend…).

Do we need to suscribe to a housing insurance?

No, GetYourPlace provides you a housing insurance for only 20$ per month (tax included). If you book a room with us, it is mandatory to pay it. Our insurer is Lloyd’s, a worldwide insurance company based in London, UK. It protects every roommate for up to 2,000,000$ for premises liability coverage (except water damage), and 25,000$ for Personal Property Coverage (1000$ deductible). All the housing insurance details are sent to you once you book a room.

Who will be my roommates?

In most of our apartments, the students just stay for a semester (5 months); hence we can’t say in advance who will stay in the apartment. Once a room of an apartment is booked, the gender and the nationality of the roommate is written on the apartment’s ad.

Can we smoke in the GetYourPlace apartments?

No, all of our apartments are smoke-free; but, you can smoke on the balcony, if the apartment features one.

What’s included in the rent?

The monthly rent includes all the necessary furniture, heating, hot water, electricity, and internet (with limited download and upload in some apartments). Some apartments also include a cleaning service, and bed sheets. The only extra is the housing insurance (20$ per month taxes included), and it is mandatory.

Are we responsible for cleaning up the apartment when leaving?

Once the lease is over, you must make sure the apartment is clean and in the same conditions as it was when you moved in (trash emptied, fridge and stove emptied and cleaned-up, floors and bedrooms cleaned-up, sheets washed…). If the apartment is not returned in the same state as which it was found (general cleanliness of the apartment) fees of 30$/hour for house cleaning will be charged.

How do I pay the rents?

When you book the room online, you make a deposit via PayPal, the safest way to pay online. Then, for the monthly rents, you will pay either via canadian online bank payment (free), via TransferWise (about 1% fee), via international bank transfer (15$ fees), or via PayPal (4% fees). The necessary information about the payment will be sent to you once you have booked your room.

What is GetYourPlace?

GetYourPlace is an organization which makes easier the arrival of foreign students in a new city by offering affordable, comfortable and furnished apartments, for a medium to a long period of time (4 to 10 months).

Who is behind GetYourPlace?

GetYourPlace was created in 2012 by 2 students from HEC Montréal : Manolis and Alexandre.

Reservations

Is a deposit required when booking the room?

Yes, a deposit equal to the one month of rent is required for the furniture when booking the room. You will make the deposit via PayPal, the safest way to pay online.

How many months is a lease for?

A lease with GetYourPlace is for 4 to 10 months, non-reducible.
